Organiser: Community Law and Mediation

Date: February 3, 2026

Location: Zoom

Times: 12pm

Cost: Free

Public consultation on updating the clean air strategy is open until 20 February.

The Clean Air Strategy was first published in 2023 to establish the priorities and policy framework to deliver air quality improvements. Following the publication of two progress reports, the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment is seeking feedback on the strategy in order to assess the potential for new actions to be included.

The consultation is an excellent opportunity to express your views on how air quality can be improved in Ireland.

The Centre for Environmental Justice is hosting this webinar to assist with the preparation of submissions.

Joined by expert speakers:

• Mark Murphy: Senior Policy Manager at the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF) – Having joined in 2018, Mark manages and leads policy development within the IHF. This includes tobacco & nicotine addiction, climate change, active travel, and air pollution. Over the past several years, the IHF has become more active in advocating for clear air, given the detrimental effects of air pollution on the circulatory system. Mark has led the Foundation’s air quality policy work, including on the Smoky Fuels campaign in 2022 and presenting at the EPA’s National Air Quality event over the past two years. Mark also acts as the secretariat of the Climate and Health Alliance.

• Laura Hogan: Barrister – Laura is a graduate of UCD and the University of Oxford. She previously worked as a judicial assistant to the Chief Justice and as a research assistant to the New Zealand Centre for Environmental Law. Laura will discuss gaps in current legislation governing air quality.
