On January 27th and 28th the Irish High Court will hear a challenge to Ireland’s Climate Action Plan 2024 brought by a grandfather, a youth climate activist, and a child represented by their parent. The applicants are joined in this action by Community Law and Mediation, acting as a client for the first time in our 50-year history on behalf of the communities we work with who are disproportionately impacted by climate change. Together we argue that the failure to reduce Ireland’s emissions in line with its legally binding requirements under national and EU law is a breach of fundamental rights. This webinar brings together litigants and campaigners who laid the ground for this climate case to be taken in Ireland. We will hear from:
· Isabelle Jorg, a plaintiff in the groundbreaking Klimaseniorinnen case successfully taken against the Swiss Government before the European Court of Human Rights in 2024.
· Vishal Prasad, Director of the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change, whose campaigning led to the landmark Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change published by the International Court of Justice in 2025.
