This briefing paper provides an update on the ‘reset’ of relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union and why it matters for: (i) Northern Ireland (ii) for the island of Ireland, and (iii) for the environment. It also provides an update on the implications of a recent legal ruling for environmental rights and protections in Northern Ireland and provides some examples of post-Brexit environmental divergence between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
