Access to Justice Observatory

Accessing Justice at EU and National Level

EJNI’s Access to Justice Observatory project has the object of screening legislative developments at EU and national level for compliance with the access to justice requirements of the Aarhus Convention. Under the leadership of Alison Hough (Technological University of the Shannon), EJNI’s Access to Justice Observatory is working with partners on the island of Ireland and across the EU to demand for access to justice rights at national level and in particular within the EU’s ‘Fit for 55 package.

The Finding Common Ground project assessed all-island implementation of the Aarhus Convention through a mix of desk-based research and consultation with the NGO community, activists, lawyers and academics. It also explored the possibility of an all-island “Aarhus Centre”. The project was completed in summer 2022 and the three reports can be viewed below or on the project website.
