Join Feminist Communities for Climate Justice, a project between the National Women’s Council and Community Work Ireland, for a webinar discussing the equality issues within active and public transport in the face of the climate crisis – and how we can design transport systems that can be used by everyone in our society. This webinar will feature contributions from Comhdháil na nOileán (Irish Islands Federation), the Irish Cycling Campaign and TBC

Public and active transport are big parts of our lives and will become more important as we aim to become a more climate-friendly country – but not everyone has equal access to them. The cost of purchasing a ticket, accessibility issues for disabled people, and a lack of public transport options in rural areas are just some of the reasons many people have trouble using the public and active transport that many of us might take for granted.

But what if our public and active transport infrastructure truly served every community in Ireland? What if our transport centred care and accessibility, with timetables that suited more than a work commute? What if it was easy to get a bus or train in both urban and rural Ireland? What if Ireland had excellent pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, including cycle highways and fully pedestrianised town centres and city streets? Better public and active transport is good for our health and the planet, and would reduce the hours wasted sitting in rush-hour congestion.

This event will have Irish Sign Language interpretation and will be recorded.
