To celebrate the final day of Dublin Climate Action Week 2024, South Dublin County Council in collaboration with National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) are hosting a Peatland Restoration Event in the scenic setting of Upper Glenasmole, in the South Dublin County Mountains. This event is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, enjoy beautiful scenery and take meaningful climate action.
This peatland restoration work will reduce peat runoff into rivers, enhance water quality, and create effective carbon absorption. This project is crucial for the Special Area of Conservation (SAC), aiding local native species.
Event Activities:
· Spreading heather mulch, grass seed and fertilizer
· Building small timber dams
· Erecting fencing around the project site
Outline of the day:
· 9.00 am: Departing from Sean Walsh Park Carpark Tallaght, on a free bus provided. Please arrive 10 minutes early.
· 9.30am: Free Bus arrives at Coronation Plantation Monument, location here. You are welcome to make your own way to the meeting point but you will still need to register on this page.
· 9.45am: Safety talk and orientation.
· 10.00am: Hike to project site.
· 10.45am: Introduction to restoration works & demonstrations, break into work parties.
· 11.00am: Begin project work (short breaks as required).
· 1.00pm: Lunch break (please bring a packed lunch).
· 1.30pm: Continue project work.
· 3.45pm: Finish work & tidy up, hike back to parking.
· 4.15pm: Arrive back to carpark.
· 4.30pm: Everyone off the hill and heading for home.

You are free to make your own way to and from the site, but you still need to reserve a place on Eventbrite, as we have limited spaces for health and safety reasons. Joining the bus, if possible, will help to minimise the carbon footprint of the event.
