The County of Fingal, and Ireland as a whole, are increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Projections indicate that past climate trends will intensify, with rising temperatures in all seasons, decreased spring and summer precipitation, and more frequent extreme precipitation and wind conditions. Sea levels will continue to rise, affecting coastlines and coastal populations, while river flooding, soil erosion, and intensified summer heatwaves will also pose significant challenges.
Fingal County Council is fully aware of these climate threats and is committed to taking serious steps to adapt and mitigate their impacts. In the recent period, the Council adopted the Fingal Development Plan and Fingal Climate Action Plan, which outline various activities to enhance the climate resilience of our settlements. The Council recognises the crucial role of citizen engagement in developing Local Area Plans that concretely implement both Development and Climate Action plans’ visions and goals. In partnership with University College Dublin, Fingal County Council applies co-design approaches and tools alongside deliberative democracy methods to achieve a more informed, collaborative, fair, and just decision-making process.
Therefore, we are inviting you to the expert-driven sessions to share the knowledge and experiences on two relevant topics:
Climate Challenges Facing Fingal County
How Citizens Can Contribute to the Planning Processes
Join us to learn more about the climate challenges we face and how you can contribute to planning and implementing effective solutions.
