Connecting Communities with Peatlands is a new initiative coordinated by the Community Wetlands Forum and Irish Rural Link. Funded by the National Just Transition Fund, the project seeks to provide transitioning supports to communities in the Midlands, particularly those that have been affected by the closure of the peat mining industry.
The project aims to support community engagement with peatlands by providing capacity-building training and workshops to community groups to develop projects with peatlands that are beneficial to their local areas and the environment.
Speakers on the day include: Kieran Mulvey (Just Transition Commissioner), Eamonn Dunican (Pollagh Heritage Group), Aoife Kirk (Community Engagement Officer, Community Wetlands Forum), more to be confirmed.
This event will take place outdoors and in line with public health measures.
