Legal rights for nature and the environment?

The Waterford Chamber of Commerce are hosting this event, together with the Climate Bar Association, and the South Eastern Circuit. This is the second of a four part series as part of the Bar of Ireland Year of Natural Justice and aims to reach out to local communities and foster links between business, the Bar and civil society.

It will consider the legal rights encompassed in the 1937 Constitution, with historical reflections on the intentions of the drafter, John Hearne. It will provide knowledge on the legal rights for nature and the environment in other legal systems in countries around the world. The third speaker will talk about the EU nature restoration law.

Speakers include;

Metropolitan Mayor Cllr Jody Power – Opening and Welcome
Dr Eugene Broderick – Drafting the 1937 Constitution: History & Ideas
Clíona Kimber SC – Protection of nature and the environment in constitutions and treaties around the world.
Grace O’Sullivan MEP – Protecting Nature

Drinks Reception at 6.00pm.
