Postgraduate Conference: New Voices in International Law

Join us for a dynamic one-day conference bringing together emerging scholars from across Ireland who are engaging with pressing issues in international law. This conference provides a platform for vibrant discussions on sustainability, human rights, conflicts, and historical narratives that shape our understanding of international legal frameworks.

This conference features four panels with presentations from doctoral and early career researchers across Irish universities. Each panel includes commentary from established scholars in the field who will provide valuable insights and facilitate discussions.

Panel 1 (10:15-11:20) explores the intersection of environmental concerns and international legal frameworks through presentations on carbon sinks and climate law, technology governance in the climate crisis era, and the legitimacy challenges in global environmental constitutionalism.

Panel 2 (11:40-13:00) critically examines the ongoing situation in Gaza through legal perspectives on genocide, settler colonialism, and people-to-people projects under occupation.

Panel 3 (14:00-15:20) investigates the effectiveness and limitations of human rights frameworks through discussions on community interests in international law, the UN human rights treaty system’s approach to corruption, and the protection of mental health rights in workplace contexts.

Panel 4 (15:40-17:00) explores how historical contexts shape international legal structures, examining themes of EU membership criteria, imperial logic in use of force prohibitions, and transnational entanglements in land claims.

This conference is ideal for legal scholars, practitioners, graduate students, and anyone interested in critical perspectives on international law. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with emerging research, network with scholars from across Ireland, and participate in discussions about pressing global legal challenges.
