Join us as we celebrate National Heritage Week by taking a wonder through our Ardan Wood nature reserve near Kilbeggan in Co. Westmeath.

We will meet at Ardan Wood reserve road-side parking at 10:30 a.m on Sunday the 25th of August. Once gathered we will make our way on foot.

Irish heritage is deeply connected to our natural landscape that both tells and inspires stories across the generations. This woodland walk is dedicated to the heritage week theme of how we may conserve our living heritage. Through the lens of the assisted natural regeneration of an old native woodland.

We will step into Ardan Wood and into the newly aquired fields that surround it. We will learn how a community-led approach is offering a guiding hand to assist an old woodland to expand for the first time in generations.

Age limit: All ages are welcome – however, we do ask that children are accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

What to bring:

Warm and waterproof clothing
Sturdy footwear such as hiking boots or welly boots
Packed lunch, water, snacks
Any medication you may need
Your favorite nature walk gear if you have; such as culars, a hand lens or identification manuals
We will be providing tea, coffee and biscuits for our picnic. If you have a reusable coffee/tea cup, please bring this along to minimize waste on the day.

Bathroom Facilities: Please note that there are no toilet facilities on site. The nearby town of Kilbeggan is less than 8 minutes drive from the site with the option of a Centra/Circle K garage with facilities. However, we cannot guarantee that the toilet will be in working order.

Cancellation Note: Events may be cancelled on short notice if there are adverse weather conditions or County weather warnings in place. In the event that we do cancel an event on short notice, we will send an email to inform you as early as possible.
